Disley Film Society launches with FREE screening of ‘Up’

Disley Film Society will be launched on Thursday 23rd September at Disley Methodist Church with a free screening of ‘Up’. It will also be your opportunity to tell the Society what sort of films you would like to see in the future. Doors open at 7.00pm for a 7.30pm showing and refreshments will be available.

Disley man celebrates 85th Birthday by Helping Heroes

On Saturday 7th August 2010 ex Royal Navy seaman Bernard Goodwin celebrated his 85th birthday party in the White Horse. . Twenty seven of his friends sat down for a meal with wine, all paid for by Bernard. His only request was that everyone donated £5 per head to his chosen charity, Help for Heroes. A good night was had by all and  £372.54 was raised…

Disley Scouts visit Hungary

A group of thirty-three Scouts, Explorers and Leaders from Disley went a little further afield than usual for its summer camp this year, spending ten days in Hungary.  The trip included seeing all the major tourist sights in Budapest,  a visit to the circus, rock climbing, horse riding, dry tobogganing and swimming.  Everyone enjoyed sampling the local cuisine, meeting Hungarian Scouts and getting an insight…

St. Mary’s Tots group receives £300 surprise!

St. Mary’s Tuesday Tots group are delighted to have recently received a cheque for £300 from Waitrose in Buxton. Names of three local causes are drawn from a barrel each month and then customers choose which one they want to support. Wendy Bradbury, seen here receiving the cheque, said that the group were thrilled to have been chosen to receive this award.

English Heritage Open Days at Grey Cottage

English Heritage runs a scheme for free access open days at their major properties each year in September, but this year they are extending it and encouraging owners of domestic and other smaller properties, with listing, to open their doors to the public so that more can enjoy our shared heritage.

PRIDE Woodland Garden Project

The special project to make a woodland garden on land adjacent to St. Mary’s Church car park and footpath 25 is nearing completion.  Pride group members and many volunteers have worked very hard to fulfil this ambitious scheme.

Charity Bike Ride

The ‘Biking Belles’ from Disley A.K.A. Andrea Wellings, Anita Palmer, Dawn McDonald, and Paula Whittaker cycled 140 miles coast to coast over 3 days during the May Day bank holiday (30 April to 2nd May) to raise money for charity. They started the challenge in Whitehaven, pedalling through the Lake District, over the North Pennines and finishing at Tynemouth. They have managed to raise over £2000 so far for the Leukaemia…

Disley Parish Council Receive Quality Award

Disley Parish Council was presented with their Quality Parish Council certificate by the Chairman of the Cheshire Association of Local Councils, Mr. Stuart Hulse, at an awards evening held in Disley Community Centre.
