Councillor Diane Guy honoured by the Queen in Birthday Honours List

Congratulations to Councillor Diane Guy who has been awarded the MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list announced today.
Cllr. Guy has received the award for giving over thirty years of unpaid and selfless service in local government, charity fundraising and instigating community enhancing projects and events in Disley & Newtown.

Cllr. David Kidd, Chairman of Disley Parish Council said “Diane’s contribution to the community spirit of our village cannot be overstated. She is a remarkable individual who has inspired people of all ages to volunteer to improve the quality of our community. Her energy and commitment are exemplary and she is a very deserving recipient of this award”

Cllr. Jackie Pattison, vice Chairman of Disley Parish Council said “I am delighted that Diane has been awarded this honour. She is highly respected for the time, dedication and effort she puts into improving the village environment. The award also recognises her contribution to the many organisations that she is involved with.”

Disley & Newtown Well Dressing Festival 2013

Come along to the Woodland garden and enjoy this year’s exhibits which will remain on display throughout the festival.
Programme of Events
Saturday 15th June – Ram Green Disley
12.30pm Morris Dancing by The Fidlers Fancy Dance Team
1.15pm – Maypole Dancing by Children from Disley Primary School
2.00pm – The Chester Town Crier, Maypole Dancers and The Fidlers Fancy Dance Team will lead the way to the Woodland Garden for the formal welcome to the well dressing by Lord Newton.
From 2.15pm onwards you can enjoy music by:
Poynton Concert Band
The Silver Belles Flute Ensemble
Tin’stle Hand Bell Ringers
St. Mary’s Singers
Guitar & Vocal entertainment by Malena and Mareicke
There will be a free shuttle bus between The Ram’s Head Car Park and the Woodland Garden on Saturday afternoon between 12pm – 4pm.
Sunday 16th June at St. Mary’s Church, Disley
2.00pm – Formal blessing of the Gift of Water by the Reverend Margaret Owens.
Lunches and Afternoon Teas will be served in St. Mary’s Church from 11.30am throughout the festival

Annual Parish Meeting – Friday 26th April 2013

The Annual Parish Meeting of Disley Parish Council will be held at 8.00pm on Friday 26th April at Disley Community Centre. This is an opportunity to meet members of your Parish Council and find out what they have been doing on their behalf during the past year. It is also an opportunity for people to come along and give their views, ask questions and raise any matters of concern relating to Disley.

Margaret Duddy OBE 3rd April 1926 – 18th February 2013

It is with great sadness that we have to announce the news that Margaret Duddy OBE passed away on Monday 18th February in Stepping Hill Hospital.
Margaret Duddy OBE gave over 50 years’ service in local government as both Parish & County Councillor and had the distinction of being the longest-serving leader of Macclesfield Borough Council.
Margaret Duddy received an OBE in the 1997 New Year’s Honours and in 2002 was awarded the Freedom of the Borough of Macclesfield. Margaret was also associated with many charitable organisations and had been a Disley school governor for many years.
The funeral will be held at 12.00pm on Friday 8th March at St. Mary’s Church, Disley.

Persimmon Homes submit Planning Application for the former Fibrestar site.

Persimmon Homes North West have submitted a planning application to build 121 dwellings on the former Fibrestar site on Redhouse Lane to Cheshire East Council.
The plans include details of the appearance, scale, layout and landscaping of the site and they can be viewed:

by entering the application number 12/4837M into the search criteria
• at the Parish Council office between 9.00am and 1.00pm, Monday to Friday
To ensure that everyone who wishes to has an opportunity to view the plans the Parish Council will be displaying them at Disley Community Centre on Tuesday 29th January between 5.30pm and 7.00pm.

Disley’s Nick and Dolly to the Rescue!


Following three years of training Disley resident Nick Shepherd and his mountain rescue search dog Dolly passed their final three day assessment in the Lake District which means they are now an operational search dog team. They can be called out by any mountain rescue team or police force in the country to assist in mountain, rural and suburban search and rescue operations.

Nick has been a voluntary member of Kinder Mountain Rescue Team, which is based in Hayfield, since 2004. He got Dolly, a German shepherd as a seven week old pup and began training with her in December 2009.The team, which consists of approximately 45 members, respond to an average of 30 call outs a year.
